This tour was so interesting! The volunteers were very nice and incredibly informative. I learned so much about the history of the area and the railways. The seats were comfortable and there are bathrooms on the train cars. There were some great Fall views, but a lot of the tour involves going through the town, so less leaf viewing than I had hoped, but the information more than made up for it. We also got to see some Osprey nests!

Got some great fall color change photos. It was a good experience. The volunteers were full of history and information. FYI the train ride includes several stops to reverse the engine and switch tracks, so you aren't moving the whole time.

3 stars for such a friendly and welcoming staff. However, calling this a "scenic" tour is a stretch. You are stopped for at least the trip and basically take a very slow stroll through Ellsworth. I took a picture of the best part of the trip for you. Enjoy

Pros: Volunteer staff was extremely friendly. They made sure everyone was comfortable and had all their questions answered. It was neat to be on an old train. Cons: Not very scenic. Spent more time stopped while they changed the tracks to accommodate our journey. Even when we were moving it was a very slow place. Perhaps I had expectations in my head of scenic views and this ride just was not that.

Really had fun taking this historic train ride. All the staff and volunteers really make sure you have a pleasant and positive experience. We learned about the railroad and got to experience what riding in an authentic passenger car is like. Great deal on the tickets and wonderful ride for our young son. Definitely recommend this experience.

We had a great ride in a former Maine Central Railroad coach on the Downeast Scenic Railroad! All of the volunteer staff was extremely friendly, and it was well worth the $20. Don't go into it expecting spectacular views of mountains or the coast, because that isn't what this is, but if you're there for a relaxing train ride, and to learn about some railroad history, you'll have a great time!
